The use of a ballast bed ensures stability, dampens vibrations and drains away excess rainwater. When the construction is fully filled, the sleepers can be aligned in height. A hydraulic jack is used to level the rail in the correct position. With the tamping machine especially designed by Bemo Rail, the ballast is compacted under each sleeper.
The advantages of this system are:
- Regular settling of the subsoil can easily be counteracted.
- By means of tamping and regular maintenance the ballast system can easily be brought back to the required tolerances.
- Relatively low investment costs compared to the installation of foundations for regular constructions on concrete.
