The use of a ballast bed ensures stability, dampens vibrations and funnels storm water. When the construction is fully filled, the sleepers can be aligned in height. A hydraulic jack is used to level the rail in the correct position. With Bemo Rail’s specially designed tamping machine the ballast is compressed under each sleeper.
The advantages of this system are:
- Regular settling of the subsoil can easily be prevented.
- By means of tamping and regular maintenance the ballast system can easily be brought back to the required tolerances.
- Relatively low investment costs compared to the installation of foundations for regular constructions on concrete.
