Third hybrid locomotive for Tata Steel successfully delivered

Not long ago, we transported hybrid locomotive 337 for Tata Steel to IJmuiden; the third in a series of ten in total.

This locomotive features a Full Hybrid drivetrain equipped with a substantial LFP battery pack, combined with a small generator!

Just like the previous locomotives, 335 and 336, it delivers outstanding results in terms of noise, fuel, and exhaust gas reduction.

Noise levels have been reduced by another 35%, fuel consumption has been lowered by an additional 25%, NOx and soot emissions have been cut by an impressive 95%.

Thanks to its ability to operate fully on battery power, the locomotive can also be used for shunting inside halls and in built-up areas.

Together with the first series of four converted locomotives, this marks yet another major step forward.

Transport from Warmenhuizen to IJmuiden

With locomotive 338 already under construction in the background, we filmed the start of the transport in Warmenhuizen in the morning.

Later in the evening and on location, our colleague Chris from Bemo captured some great footage for us.

As mentioned, the delivery of this locomotive brings the total number of transferred locomotives to three, following our earlier handovers of locomotives 335 and 336.

We are quite proud of this achievement, and Tata Steel is very satisfied with our service. This is evident from the feedback of one of their project managers:

“And yet another locomotive delivered. My compliments on this delivery. This locomotive is free of any defects of its own. That is truly an achievement. A great achievement.”

We previously wrote a blog post about the introduction of the first hybrid locomotive, 335, including an interesting video.

Now, on to the delivery of locomotive 338!

Below is our video for an impression of the transport >>
